OTEDUCA, the education and training unit of OTD Chile, trained a score of teachers, members of the Metropolitan Teachers’ College, in four successful days, completed last Friday 7 September.
The training organized by the gender coordinator of the school, Clotilde Soto was the first step for teachers, educational students, social workers, psychologists and trade union leaders to learn more about trans diversities.
Among the reflections of this last day, the attendees thanked the instance and concluded that there is not only one way to be and the essential thing is to have a look from a rights approach.
The head of the Pedagogical Technical Unit of a school in Malloco, Elizabeth Alfaro Berríos told that her motivation to participate was that she has a trans student. “She has made new issues emerge, such as breaking the ranks by sex and the bathroom of males or females, which from next year will be mixed,” she said. “Having her has been an opportunity as an educator to allow people to express themselves and accept them as they are.”
The historical leader of the school and promoter of the training was happy and grateful. “We talked about things that we had never dealt with,” she said. Her goal was to invite leaders to download the information to the grassroots. “Here we could live the subject” and hopes to continue repeating the instance, so that new groups of teachers can coexist and share.
