In the past few months, the Trans community has been publicly exposed as never before. The discussion about the Gender Identity Bill and the words of Sebastian Piñera judging the identity of transgender children impacted us all, either because the transphobia became evident or because we went out to show that we are not a mistake.
However, when a transgender woman receives an award in the most important stage of film industry, every transphobic statement of the past had an impact on the people who made them. Today, Daniela Vega is the most important actress of the country and the world’s eyes were set on Chile. A few days before, she announced that she had do travel to represent Chile with documents that does not portray her gender identity.
This demonstrates the lack of seriousness of the Congress about such an urgent subject. The problem that many cisgender members of the parliament have with the Gender Identity Bill is that it includes children and teenagers, because in terms of their vision, most transgender children regret their decision. However, is this were true, where are those repentant children? There is no evidence. In contrast, we know thousands of transgender people of all ages whose rights have been violated because they do not have an Identity Card in accordance with their gender identity.
The challenges transgender people face are due to the discrimination, and the lack of validation towards those who are not cisgender and straight. The unsuitability of our lawmakers leaves us without access to healthcare and education, makes us jobless, and many other issues.
I’d like to invite the new government to question themselves; do you accept us the way we are? Our rights continue to be denied and we can wait no longer. The Fantastic Woman’s Oscar helped the entire country but now we need the country to help us.
Tener un Oscar antes que el derecho a la identidad

En los últimos meses la comunidad trans ha estado expuesta públicamente como nunca antes. El debate sobre la Ley de Identidad de Género y los dichos de Sebastián Piñera juzgando la identidad de niños trans, nos removió a todes, ya sea porque se evidenció la transfobia instalada o porque nosotres salimos a demostrar que no somos un error.
Sin embargo, cuando una mujer trans chilena sube al escenario más importante del cine a recibir un premio, todos los comentarios transfóbicos del pasado le pesaron a quién tuvo la poca vergüenza de expresarlos. Daniela Vega es hoy la actriz más importante del país y los ojos del mundo se posaron sobre Chile. Días antes, ella denunció que tenía que viajar a representar a Chile con documentos que no reflejan su identidad.
Esto evidencia la poca seriedad que ha tenido el Congreso ante un tema tan urgente. El problema que varios/as parlamentarios/as cisgénero tienen con la Ley de Identidad de Género es que se incluya a niñes y adolescentes porque desde su visión la mayoría de niñes trans se arrepienten, sin embargo si esto fuera cierto ¿dónde están les miles de niñes arrepentides? No conocemos ningune, en cambio conocemos miles de personas trans de todas las edades vulneradas en sus derechos humanos por no tener una cédula de identidad acorde a la identidad.
Los problemas de las personas trans se deben a la falta de reconocimiento y la discriminación hacia quienes no somos cisgénero y heterosexuales. La ineptitud de quienes deben hacer la leyes nos está dejando sin trabajo, educación y salud entre varias otras cosas.
Invito al futuro Gobierno a preguntarse ¿Nos acepta tal como somos? Nuestros derechos nos están siendo negados y no podemos seguir esperando. El Oscar para Una Mujer Fantástica ayuda a todo el país, ahora necesitamos que el país nos ayude a nosotres.
